Looking after your pet's immune system

It’s no secret that our immune system plays a vital role in protecting our body from infection, but did you know that it does so much more than just that? Scientists are continuously discovering that this complex network of cells play a role in almost every system of the body which are essential for normal and healthy functioning.

Some may wonder, does my pet’s immune system work the same as mine? In short, yes. Just as we, humans, are susceptible to infection and picking up all sorts of viruses, the same can happen with our pets. The immune system acts as an army in defending the body against any “intruders”.

The immune system in a nutshell

We know our blood is red, and this is because it contains an enormous amount of red blood cells. In our bloodstream there are also white blood cells, and these make up the immune system. White blood cells are made in bone marrow and an organ known as the thymus and migrate to various parts of the body via blood vessels. The immune system is almost everywhere in the body – the bloodstream, lymph nodes, the spleen, our skin, mouth, nose and more.(2)

Without getting into too much detail, the different types of immune cells include:

  • Neutrophils
  • Macrophages
  • Lymphocytes (B cells, killer T cells, helper T cells)
  • Dendritic cells

These various white blood cells each have a distinct role in working together to identify, attack and destroy pathogens (germs), as well as produce antibodies. Antibodies are produced by B cells and attach themselves to viruses and stop them from being able to penetrate healthy cells and multiplying. Antibodies also help the immune cells to identify pathogens and destroy them.(2)

Here are some signs to look out for in your pet which may indicate their immune system is compromised:

Physiological stress is associated with both external and internal conditions that disrupts the homeostasis/balance of the body. Homeostasis is vital in promoting normal body functions and good health in pets and other organisms. In other words, if the body is out of balance, it is more susceptible to infection and recovery will be much slower.

Newly discovered wonders of the immune system

The immune system is an extremely powerful mechanism which protects us from millions of germs and helps to fight infections and viruses.(1) The wonders of this mechanism is that it is so much more than this. Recent discoveries show that it is important in pregnancy, the metabolism, organ function, bone homeostasis, exercise and more. Some of these discoveries include:

  • Researchers at Northwestern University have found that the immune system stimulates cells in the heart muscle, helping to keep the heart pumping and maintain a steady rhythm.(1)
  • After a stroke, immune cells are responsible for clearing out dead brain cells as well as producing substances which may allow the brain to repair damage.(1)

Anima-Strath may just be exactly what your pet needs to lead a long, healthy life without too many medical complications.

Substantiated through trials, Anima-Strath has a measurable effect on the immune system and body of pets. It enhances and modulates the immune system, helping protect it from disease and illness, as well as promoting homeostasis in the body and optimal functioning of the major organs and systems.

Anima-Strath is scientifically proven to have a modulating effect on the immune system homeostasis and increases the appropriateness of the immune response.(3,4)

  • Increases splenic lymphocyte subpopulations,
  • Increases helper and inducer T-Lymphocytes,
  • Increases B-lymphocytes,
  • And decreases suppressor T-lymphocytes.

Vets and pet parents across the world have successfully used Anima-Strath both for the treatment and prevention of infection in pets, and to support the body in counteracting any condition that puts the body under physiological stress.

Anima-Strath is proven to assist with:

  • Strengthening the immune system before and during infection and disease
  • Convalescing and ageing animals
  • Physiological stress such as training and performance
  • Reducing recovery time
  • Breeding
  • Maintaining health and wellbeing.
